Ecomulch produces organic mulch in and around Nairobi by recycling locally generated green waste into materials that improve soil health, conserve moisture, and support healthy gardens and landscapes.
Mulch plays a critical role in maintaining healthy urban green spaces. When applied correctly, mulch helps protect soil, conserve moisture, suppress weeds, regulate soil temperature, and support long-term plant health.
At Ecomulch, we produce organic mulch from locally generated plant-based waste and offer mulching services designed for the realities of urban and peri-urban environments.
The use of organic mulch helps:
Protect soil from drying out
Suppress weed growth
Reduce erosion
Support healthier root systems
Improve the resilience of urban green spaces over time
What We Offer
Our mulch products come in two types, one made from coconut husks (coco mulch) and another type made from sugarcane peels (miwa mulch).
1. Coco Mulch
Coco mulch is produced from processed coconut husks and is suitable for a range of gardening and landscaping applications. We offer coco mulch in different forms to suit different needs.
Products include the following:
Coco Fibre
Coco fibre is a flexible, lightweight fibrous material that works great as mulch.
Coco fibre can be used:
As surface mulch in gardens and flowerbeds to reduce moisture loss and suppress weeds
As a base or underlayer beneath miwa mulch for improved soil protection and aesthetic finish
As lining material for hanging baskets
As climbing support for container plants such as money plants and other climbers
Coco fibre is particularly useful in small gardens, containers, and decorative planting areas.
Coco Chunks
Coco chunks are coarser shredded pieces of coconut husks. They are less stringier than coco fiber.
They can be used as:
Mulch cover around tree basins
Soil cover on flowerbeds
On dirt pathways to cover the soil
As bedding for livestock
Because they are chunkier, they last longer compared to coco fibre but are less flexible.
Coco Chips
Coco chips are small chunks of the harder coconut shells.
They can be used as:
As mulch decorative around indoor plants
Protective coat to prevent splash when watering potted plants
A more organic, less dusty and natural alternative to white stone pebbles typically put on potted plants
Coco chips can come in two categories, small pieces or medium sized, each giving a distinct appearance.
2. Miwa Mulch
Miwa mulch is made from shredded sugar cane peels. It has an off-white to creamish color and resembles grass straw, which is sometimes used as mulch.
Miwa mulch is typically used in combination with coco mulch as a top dressing layer for improved visual appeal or on its own in the establishment of lawns to reduce water stress.
It can also be used as a temporary soil cover for small garden spaces and container plants during the establishment phase to reduce evaporation and weeds.
Mulching Services (Available On Request)
We also offer mulching services for clients who prefer support with assessment and application. This may include:
As mulch decorative around indoor plants
Protective coat to prevent splash when watering potted plants
A more organic, less dusty and natural alternative to white stone pebbles typically put on potted plants
Mulching services are suitable for residential compounds, institutions, estates, and landscaped spaces where consistent soil care is required.
